Comparisons: There are dozens of differences between the R0 and R1 release.
As claimed by Shameless, the R0 version is probably the most complete one
in existence. A detailed comparison between R1 and the/an original Italian
VHS can be found here:
http://www.avmaniacs.com/forums/showthr ... ened+woman
I have compared R0 and R1 directly, in relation to the VHS vs R1 comparison above.
To a first approximation, R0 contains all elements present on the VHS (but not on R1)
and all elements present on R1 (but not on VHS). Also, where R1 and VHS contain
alternate scenes, R0 follows VHS. So, next, I only list the few exceptions
to the above rules. (They all involve elements only a couple of seconds
long, at most.) Timings are as those found on the R0 PAL disc.
The corresponding R1 and VHS timings can be found in the above weblink.
08:38 PAL R0: like R1, is apparently missing a shot of an additional line of
Italian dialogue present on VHS after Maria says "I have to have better
material for that story about male sterilization".
29:00 PAL R0: is mostly missing the extended shot of Philippe starting to peel the
apple, as present on VHS. But, the cut to Maria is a tad later on R0 compared
to R1 though, i.e., the knife does start to peel the apple.
44:24 PAL R0: the longer topless nudity shot of Maria dancing out from behind the
wire wall present on R1 is not found on R0, it switches scene as per VHS.
Note, the longer shot is present later-on in the flashback scene, as on VHS.
Knowing Radley Metzger, he may well have sexed-up this scene.
45:56 PAL R0: varies slightly with R1 during the bondaged dummy scene where
Maria has her arms crossed and says "No! Please!". On R1 we see and hear
Maria speak both words then there is a cut to a shot with Philippe, and he
starts speaking straightaway. On R0, we see and hear Maria speak only the
first word. Then the shot cuts to Philippe and we hear the second word
off camera while Philippe is silent and then he starts to speak. It is
possible that the VHS version is a second longer during this exchange.
67:51 PAL R0: has the same driving scene as R1, VHS is a little longer at the
end as Philippe looks at Maria.
75:04 PAL R0: uses the slightly shorter VHS shot of the Amphibicar crossing water,
BUT the music is from R1, not from VHS which is different, and so continues
onto the start of the next scene whereas on R1 it ends with the scene.
(There are other small music/sound differences between R0/R1/VHS but this is
beyond the scope of the present comparison.)
76:36 PAL R0: like VHS, the opening twirl seen on R1 is omitted from the flashback
to Maria's dance behind the wire wall. (It is present in the original scene. So,
possibly another example of Radley Metzger sexing-up a scene.)
76:52 PAL R0: uses the slightly shorter VHS shot, compared to R1, of Maria's legs
in the car ride.
There are also very minor R1 vs VHS differences of less than a second which are
not considered here either.
So, how do the runtimes stack-up?
R0 89:38 24fps (86:03 PAL) vs R1 86:28 24fps vs VHS 87:58 24fps (84:27 PAL)
As indicated at the start, R0 is closest to VHS. So, if we add-up all of the
additional R1 times for scenes present also on R0, but not VHS, and subtract
those present on VHS but not R0, i.e. approx 1:46 - 00:09, we expect R0 to be
about 1:37 24fps (1:33 PAL) longer than VHS - this is remarkably close, to
what is found, to within a few seconds. This indicates that there are no major
R0 additions, not found on R1 and VHS, nor are there any major R0 omissions, but
present on R1 and VHS, neither of which would be covered by the above comparison.
Only a side-by-side frame-by-frame comparison of R0 and R1 would reveal any such.
To cut a long story short: buy the R0 release.

As you can imagine, I started looking into this a couple of weeks ago. Back then there
was nothing. In the mean time I see a comparison has been added. I didn't think
to check again before I posted. Ho-hum.
