Robocop: Prime Directives

Postby Brent_Reid » 04 Feb 2015 13:58

I see that the sole release listed is non-anamorphic. Does anyone know if any of the reissues are anamorphic, particularly the most recent, from 2008?

I try to update the comparison, seems to be quite old.

Thanks Jari. I was referring to the two UK reissues but I guess it wouldn't hurt having the US and Canadian DVDs on there too!

Damn, this one is confusing.

UK releases:

1) 4-disc SE (2002), http://www.amazon.co.uk/Robocop-Prime-D ... 0000649JC/
Our site says "non-anamorphic", but this reviews says "anamorphic":
http://www.myreviewer.com/DVD/33510/Rob ... -Chris-Cox

2) "Full Saga" (2006): http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000CQ97T2/
http://www.eyeforfilm.co.uk/dvdreview/r ... r-macready

3) 2008 release: http://www.amazon.co.uk/RoboCop-Directi ... 001G55AHQ/
Haven't found any reviews yet.

US releases: Apparently no box set, only individual releases.

German:
http://www.ofdb.de/film/9913,RoboCop-Prime-Directives
1) 2001 box set: http://www.amazon.de/RoboCop-Prime-Dire ... 0049EXUCI/
2) 2014 box set: http://www.amazon.de/RoboCop-Prime-Dire ... 00JWG8UGE/
3) Older individual releases.

http://www.digital-movie.de/dvd-reviews ... ArtNr=1300

French:
1) 2002 box set: http://www.amazon.fr/Coffret-Robocop-20 ... 00006EHPV/
2) Vol.1 & Vol. 1, I believe.
http://www.devildead.com/indexfilm.php3?FilmID=149
http://www.devildead.com/indexfilm.php3?FilmID=421

I try to add at least some of these to the database, but maybe the best bet at this point is to get that German Blu-ray? I don't have confirmed specs at the moment, but it seems to be pretty cheap.
EDIT: Ah, German BD is actually the different 1994–1995 series: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108909/
http://www.amazon.de/RoboCop-Platinum-T ... 00H3925C2/
(Listed as 4:3 which is the OAR, I believe. Also English audio.)

Aww, you got me going for a minute there, with talk of a German BD. Am curious enough about Prime Directives but really not interested in the kids' TV show.

The cheapest DVDs anywhere seem to be the UK ones so I'm pinning my hopes on some or even all of them being anamorphic...

Looked at disc ids, and my two individual releases are discs one and two from this set. Just checked them, and they are non-anamorphic. Our specs listed are correct. No extras or anything.

Ok Jari, I'm gonna go for the most recent 2008 Delta set in the vain hope it's a newer anamorphic transfer - but it won't be! As soon as I get I'll post a comparison. It may be a little while though as I'll wait for the price to drop.

Thanks for all your help.

Delta are a low budget company that usually chuck out full screen public domain titles. It'll probably be pretty awful.

The picture quality looks pretty average on those two Prism releases. Watchable, but I wouldn't pay much for them at all.

Second Prism release with all four discs is £0.30 at CeX if you have a shop with it in stock near you - https://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=50 ... NlDCfmsW_Q

They only charge £2.50 for postage no matter how much you order, so possibly worth looking in to.

So you've confirmed specs of the UK release (one of them, at least), Sam? I have this in progress.
EDIT: Ah, sorry I only read the most recent post...

Thanks for the tip about Delta Sam. I know all about them as well as countless other PD companies. That's what I meant about the likelihood of them somehow using a newer master anamorphic master being extremely unlikely. Chances are they haven't even licensed their discs but just copied the Prism ones!

I actually had the first Prism box (from Amazon, around £1 at the time). It's a handsome affair that unfolds right out to make a really big pic of Robocop. The packaging was probably better quality than the contents! However, I loaned it to an ex-mate before I had the chance to watch it; he then promptly "lost" it...

I'll check out my local CeX and watch the price of that Prism set on Amazon too, until I can get it for a similar price as before. I watch virtually everything in me home cinema; haven't owned a telly that receives broadcast signals for years - it's all rubbish nowadays, not like when I were a lad! But I do keep an old 37" CRT TV specifically for watching low quality public domain and non-anamorphic DVDs that are painful to watch when projected to over 100". I guess that's what I'll use to watch Robocop:PD; a real shame though. If you guys ever get a whiff of any anamorphic releases anywhere, please PM me...

This is now updated. Kinda.

If I understand this correctly (via translator) the newest German box set has "FSK 16" versions of "Dark Justice" and "Meltdown" so they're actually cut:

So even more confusion!
