Ghostbusters (1984) - Blu-ray FAO Bender

Postby Bender_Mac » 14 Jan 2022 19:43

All releases of the 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray

The included Theatrical Trailer is not the original trailer. It's a re-edit and it's missing footage, that's no longer in the final movie. The original trailer can only be found on the DVD releases and on the Criterion Collection LaserDisc

Source: My own BD

This might change with the upcoming 2022 release of the ultimate edition.

Do you have a comparison source of what is different?

Using this video of the original trailer on Youtube as reference

A shot at 1:05 of Venkman saying to Dana "I'm the chairmen of the largest paranormal removal company in America" in her apartment.
On the Blu-rays trailer the sequence was replaced with a shot of Venkman standing in front of the Ghostbusters headquaters

A shot at 1:50 of Venkman saying "Make them hard" when the Ghostbusters get ready to kick Gozer's butt.
On the Blu-rays trailer the shot was replaced with a shot of Gozer

You can watch the trailer that's on the Blu-ray on Movie-List.com

Afaik there is no other reference online, about the trailer on the Blu-rays not being the actual 1984 theatrical trailer.

But is it confirmed the one of the Blu-ray is NOT the original? The opening "PG" rating on the YouTube link seems "new" rather than vintage.
Is it possible the trailer on YouTube is in fact the re-edit and the Blu-ray trailer being the original? The Blu-ray has the "Coming Soon" tag at the very end.
