Bargain thread

Come across any bargains, post them here.

Battle Royale (3 Disc Blu-ray) from Zavvi £9.95.

I own the LE and it is one of my favourite releases of all time. This is a bargain for those that missed out on the LE release.
I work away a lot but I will reply to all PM's within a few days so please have patience!

The BD release of the TMNT animated film from 2007 is £3-95 at Zavvi: http://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/tmnt/9943428.html. Snagged that one for the kids!

1980s action fanatics may take delight in the fact that the BD of Cosmatos/Stallone's COBRA has recently dropped to £6-47 on Amazon after having held its price for nearly a year. This is the cheapest I've seen it on sale for. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cobra-Blu-ray-R ... 877&sr=8-2

Just Go with It (Blu-ray) £3.50 @ Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004 ... =rewind-21
Not a bad film. I'm not a big fan of Sandler but found him bearable in this. Big fan of Nicole Kidman and found her excruciatingly poor! Standard stuff storywise but enjoyable enough.

The Da Vinci Code / Angels and Demons (Blu-ray) double pack £7.11 @ Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002 ... =rewind-21

It never fails to amaze me how people buy s**t just coz it's cheap. Never buy stuff you don't really need.
I'll gladly pay 50$ for a DVD I need, but I'll never pay even 1$ for something I have no need for. Esp those cheap BR discs...

I'll happily admit I'll buy bad films if they are sequels to films I already own, from certain companies/distributors (trying to get all the Tartan releases from before Palisades) or if they have the involvement of a favourite star, director, composer. I will wait for them to be cheap but I will buy them. I've bought discs before where I've known the movie was bad but I wanted the commentary or the extras. Different people have different needs!

Tartan sucks. They've released a few really quality DVDs. The rest are crap.

I will wait for them to be cheap but I will buy them.

I never wait. Esp those R3 DVDs which become OOP before you know it. :-D

I've bought discs before where I've known the movie was bad

I always watch first. If the movie makes me sick, I'll never buy it.

but I wanted the commentary or the extras.

I'm glad when there're no extras. I prefer high video bitrate encoding plus original DTS track. :)

Different people have different needs!

Sure they have. Some ppl drive the same piece of crap car all their lives. But I regulary buy new ones. :-D

Oh I agree. A lot of interlaced transfers. However, they release a lot of titles only available from Tartan and they usually get a good extras package together. I also like the uniformed covers but that's just my OCD.

A lot of interlaced transfers

It's not an issue for me. Almost all PAL transfers are interlaced AFAIK. Progressive PAL is very rare.
The problem is Tartan usually encodes video at low/average bitrate and its quality isn't great. Plus edge enchancement is very common.
For ex Nordisk Film or Scanbox don't do that.
Also their DTS tracks usually aren't really DTS. Likely DD to DTS conversion which many companies practice.

Star Trek: The Original Series - Complete DVD Box Set £29.95 @ Zavvi - http://www.zavvi.com/dvd/star-trek-the- ... 90961.html

The RRP is £99.99 and Zavvi/The Hut are the cheapest by over £10. Not my type of thing, but ordered as a Xmas present for a family member.

Nice price, Sam. I paid £13.50 each for the 3 seasons in April 2010, and I've only recently got round to watching Season 1. Even in the DVD format, the remastered versions look gorgeous.

The Lethal Weapon Blu-ray Collection (containing all four films) is down to £10 in Asda, if you can find a copy in your nearest store. Sadly, it's 'out of stock' on the website.
