The Film

For reviews on the movie from various critics, we recommend visiting HERE.*** John Ritter, Amy Yasbeck and Jack Warden star in this hilarious comedy with an offbeat sense of humour. Good natured Ben Healy (Ritter) and his social-climbing Wife Flo (Yasbeck) adopt seven year old Junior (Michael Oliver) to help brighten their lives. But Junior soon turns an ordinary camping trip an innocent birthday party and even a little league baseball game into a full scale comic nightmares. But is he really just a little angel trying to get out? Find out in this hilarious satire on modern-day family life.

Universal Pictures present the first movie in the "Problem Child" franchise with an anamorphic transfer at a ratio of 1.78:1, slightly cropped from the original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. It's a rather straightforward catalogue title transfer if truth be told. When the opening credit sequence begins to roll, you'll notice that there is some rather noticeable dirt and scratches. This problem also runs throughout the opening scene to some degree before eventually passing over for the majority of the runtime (although we do get some light specks here and there). There is a little edge enhancement and detail isn't always great during some of the panning shots, especially those that take place at the baseball diamond when Junior is playing for Big Ben's Braves. Generally, colours look good, if a little washed out at times. The brighter colours at the circus/funfair may appear a little dull at times, but there is a decent enough clarity to them to give a more vibrant feel to the craziness that happens in this scene. The overall transfer isn't brilliant, but it is adequate and quite satisfactory.

A number of audio tracks are included on the disc here: - English Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround - French Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround - German Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround - Italian Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround - Russian Voice Over Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround - Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround Obviously I opted for the English track, the original language of the movie. This surround encoded 2.0 track was above average when compared to some of the live action Disney family movies of the era that have been released by Buena Vista Home Entertainment and although seperation could've been a lot more involved, it does the job when it comes to the more hectic moments of the movie and the score by Miles Goodman. There were no obvious signs of damage and I noticed no audio dropouts or scratches. Dialogue was always clear. Subtitles are available in Czech, Danish, Dutch, English HoH, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Spanish and Swedish.
