Wesley Snipes is back as the ultimate vampire hunter, joining forces with the Nightstalkers, a clan of human vampire hunters, against the powerful villain Danica Talos.

Talos has resurrected a man now known as 'Drake' (he was once known as 'Dracula') from a century-long sleep, in the hopes of gaining world control for all vampires. Blade and the Nightstalkers must unleash a virus that will kill all vampires but only have one chance to make it work.

Trinity also stars Jessica Biel as Abigail, the daughter of Whistler (Kris Kristofferson), who inherits the vampire-slaying duties that once belonged to Blade (Wesley Snipes); and Ryan Reynolds (National Lampoon's Van Wilder) as Hannibal King, one of the Nightstalkers.

Video

E1 Entertainment releases the final film in the Blade trilogy onto Blu-ray in Holland using a VC-1 codec and in the original aspect ratio of 2.35:1. This third instalment in the series is not as dark as the previous two films, using lighter tones and environments. Still, it measures up quite well, even if it has a couple of minor issues.

The first issue, was the slight drop in detail and sharpness in the scene towards the beginning of the movie where Blade is being interrogated by the FBI. In this scene, the facial textures and contours that appear so vivid in other scenes, feel a little soft. The other issue I had, was the occasional artefacting in some of the darker scenes. It isn't overly noticeable, but it's there among some low level noise behind the thin layer of film grain. Other than these two blips, the transfer is generally pleasing. Contrast is consistent, shadow detail is above average, and there are no major blemishes such as scratches evident. Overall, this transfer is far from being reference quality, but fans will certainly be content.

The disc is region free, and the feature runs 112:55 (it's the theatrical version rather than the unrated version.

Audio

A single audio option has been included:
- English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1

Just like the previous Blade movies, Blade: Trinity is action-packed from the beginning to end, and with that, comes a pulsating mix. Every thump, every kill, every tyre screech, makes the relevant impact with good directionality, whilst the channel separation for the dialogue is also done well. The score is less based around dance music this time round, but is still LFE heavy - once or twice a little over-enthusiastic to the point where it distracted from what was happening on screen. Unfortunately, whilst the mix is certainly good, the effects and score used just sound so pedestrian it can be a little underwhelming at times, but that might just be me being picky. There were no scratches or drop outs and I noticed no signs of background hiss.

Optional subtitles have been provided in Dutch.
