The Film

Word of warning: if you go into this wanting a low budget war B-movie, with a crappy script, and a dull, slow execution of plot, then you win! I thought looking at the cast, this was going to be an action packed war film, and boy was I wrong. The movie is very slow, and despite sharing top billing Chuck Liddell and Mickey Rourke are only in it for a few minutes.

The plot is very simple, Captain Hans Picault (Dolph Lundgren) and Captain Jack Wosick (Luke Goss) are brought together by Major A.J. Redding (Mickey Rourke) to seek out a group of men to form a squad whose mission is to stop the Nazi’s in key locations around France. They are to obtain information and stop the Nazi’s who are building, and using a new powerful weapon of destruction. In order to execute their mission, they must train a band of misfits, those who want to get down and dirty, but don’t follow orders. So begins the ordeal, and yes they bond in brotherhood.

What makes this so bad is the dialogue, and the plot moves so slowly combining to deliver an unimpressive outcome. You are constantly wondering if something is going to happen. There is hardly any war action aside from a few sudden bursts in spots.

It took 6 years for World War II to end, and that is how long it felt like getting through this movie, which is sad because I am really fond of the director behind this film. I liked Ryan Little’s series of war films, "Saints and Soldiers" (2003), "Saints and Soldiers: Airborne Greed" (2012) and "Saint and Soldiers: The Void" (2014) are terrific film. The first being the best. He's a fairly competent filmmaker and I don’t know what happened here? It lacks any real value.

There is some solid acting in this film, actor Noah Segan playing the part of August Chambers. Segan is such an underrated actor. He shined in the part of August. Ryan Kelly is another fantastic actor playing the part of William York. These two are the only shining spots in the cast. Another plus is the costumes, weapons and vehicles are all solidly sound in the historical context of the movie. The cinematography is also amazing, that is something that does stand out as great.

I think the biggest let down to this film is the dull, slow, boring plot. Nothing happens. It’s a film of training, talking, and horrible, and I mean horrible fake accents. Trying to listen to Lundgren speak with a French Accent turns this movie into a comedy. The movie is dull, I had to battle it out, and finish the movie. In the end, it picks up a little, and finally does grab your attention, but the very slow pace at the start is what really killed it. In the end I had no real love for this film other than it was an okay watch, basically in a rating scale it was stuck directly in the middle, not horrendous, and yet not good, just Okay. I thought it was poorly executed in script. Majorly poor in editing, and there was some really bad acting throughout, the badly written dialogue didn't help either.

Video

Presented in 1.85:1 widescreen mastered in 1080p HD 24/fps using AVC MPEG-4 compression, the picture quality is brilliant. The imagery is vibrant in color, and very crisp to the eye.

Audio

This comes with an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround (48kHz/24-bit), the sound quality is great. The dialogue, the booms, gun fire are all mixed with perfection. The sound department gets a huge shout out. subtitles are included in English SDH only.

Extras

Nothing other than a DVD Copy of the film, not even trailers.

Packaging

2-disc standard Blu-ray case, with slip art cover. Contains both DVD and Blu-ray.

Overall

An okay film with sudden burst of action. A very poor script. In the end it’s worth a rent.
