Draw between:
– R0 Elite Entertainment "Millennium Edition" for its notes, photo galleries and "Night of the Living Bread" short movie. It also includes both the original Mono and a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.
– R1 Genius Products, for its documentary and Romero interview. It has only a Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround soundtrack.
- R1 Criterion, for the exclusive extras including the workprint version of the film.
– R2 Italy, for its differing documentary, interview (in Italian only) and photo galleries. It also includes both the original Mono and a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.
Also note:
– If you're interested in a colorized version, R1 Off Color Films/Fox has a DTS soundtrack as well as an exclusive commentary track. It also offers the original Black and White 1968 version.
– R0 Slingshot is the only known edition to offer the 3-D version of the film.
– If you're interested in the 30th Anniversary Edition cut, R0 Anchor Bay has the best extras while the UK Trilogy of Dead set includes an exclusive documentary. Reports suggest that the image is cropped on all 4 sides.
There are many other "budget" versions to choose from, including discs from Madacy Entertainment, Parade, Goodtimes, United American Video, Prism Leisure Corporation, Moonstone Pictures and Tartan. Avoid them – they are awful transfers or bare-bones releases.
The following versions of the film are known to exist:
– The original Black and White 1968 cut.
- The "Night of Anubis" workprint cut.
– Colorized versions of the original 1968 cut.
– A 3-D version of the original 1968 cut.
– The 30th Anniversary Edition cut, replacing about 15 minutes of footage with 15 minutes shot for this edition. George A. Romero was not involved with this version.
