OVERALL: R1
The "Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection" box set has some exclusives extras on the "bonus disc" (do note, that the actual broadcast of "AFI Salute" was almost 2 hours), but others are the same.
Transfer: Based on the reports, the re-release is improved (it´s now sharper and cleaner, with better colors) over the original release.
About the ending:
- Both R1-releases, R2 UK/Poland & R4 use "the Airport ending".
- R2 French, German, Italian & Scandinavian releases use "the Suicide ending".
*"The Suicide ending"-version is also generally shorter.
About the original R2/R4 -releases: Although they´re 4:3, so in most scenes there is obvious cropping, there is also some open matting (differences can be spotted by comparing scenes in the film with scenes in the documentary). Please see these links: HERE, and HERE.
Please see the images of the "The Masterpiece Collection" from below: -
