OVERALL: Draw
For the longer version of the film, the German release presents the best option (it is both anamorphic and English-friendly); for the shorter version of the film, the R1 release is currently the only option.
Versions
The film exists in two versions: the version originally released in the Australia, the UK and other European territories was entitled The Shooter and had a running time of 104 minutes, whereas in America the film was released under the title Hidden Assassin, with a running time of 89 minutes.
The shorter American cut omits the following scenes:
- a scene in which Alex and Michael visit the grave of Michael's mother.
- a scene in which Alex and Michael conduct a night-time stakeout of Simone's home.
- a scene in which Belgado assaults Simone (whilst she is being held in custody) but Simone resists by kneeing Belgado in the groin.
The shorter version also removes Stefano Mainetti's music from the closing credits, replacing this piece of music with a rap song. There are other music changes throughout the film, with the shorter American cut making more overt use of Mainetti's music during the main body of the film. -
CUTS:
- R1 America- Dimension Home Video - No cuts - shorter American edit of the film (88:43 mins - NTSC)
- R2 Germany- MIG Filmgroup - No cuts - international version (100:10 mins - PAL)
- R2 Germany- Planet Media - No cuts - longer European version of the film
- R2 Holland- RCV - No cuts - longer European version of the film
