OVERALL: Draw
R2 Holland offers the complete movie in its original aspect ratio, and with three English soundtracks, including a DTS track. On the other hand, the US disc from Raro Video contains an anamorphic transfer and English audio (but only as a two-channel stereo track).
The Italian disc has an Italian soundtrack and an anamorphic transfer, but about 90 seconds of the movie are missing, probably due to print damage, and it isn't English friendly.
General notes:
- The murders were originally scored with "O Fortuna" from Orff's Carmina Burana but after the composer's heirs objected, the music was replaced with Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain". No releases are known to feature the Orff music.
- "Body Puzzle" was the original Italian title and a rescored/cut for all-ages rating version was re-released as "Misteria". -
CUTS:
-
R0 America- Image Entertainment - No Cuts. Original English export version credits (98:21 NTSC)
Carl Orff music has been replaced and a dissolve is imposed to obscure the credits for Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana". - R0 America- Raro Video - No Cuts (98:30 NTSC). Carl Orff music has been replaced
- R1 America- Madacy - No Cuts (94:26 NTSC)
- R2 Limited Edition Germany- X-Rated Kult Video - No cuts (94:42 PAL)
- R2 Holland- BBI DVD - No Cuts (94:48 PAL). Carl Orff music has been replaced, but the end credits, refering to Carl Orff, are intact.
-
R2 Italy- Flamingo Video - Yes (93:21 PAL). Even though the DVD is titled "Misteria", it doesn't offer the all-ages version, but the following is missing:
-During detective Mike Livet's first trip to the stables to question Guy:
--Mike's arrival by car, and the low angle introductory shot of Guy on horseback and Livet walking into the stable area is missing (0:41).
--Right after, a shot of Mike and Guy through the window of dead man Abe's stable quarters, including dialogue, is missing (0:06).
--After that, Mike follows Guy to the door and the camera tracks across the inside to the door as they open it, and a scene showing Mike and Guy in the doorway in which Guy tells him Abe continued to make use of the stables after he was married is missing (0:17).
-Finally, in the last seconds of the swimming pool murder, shots of the killer stabbing the knife out of frame and the dead man's face (no gore) are missing (0:17).
Carl Orff music has been replaced and the end credits abruptly cut from the Dolby logo to the disclaimer to obscure Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" credit.
