OVERALL: Draw
Between the Blue Underground UltraHD combo and 3-disc Blue Underground and the Austrian Blu-ray for the uncut version with the misplaced scene intact and exclusive extras (note that the Blue Underground UltraHD combo has a 4K disc with Dolby Atmos while the 3-disc has the soundtrack CD).
Also please note that the UK edition suffers from censor cuts but nevertheless includes the "freeze frame" shot (see below) not found on the US release, and also includes some exclusive extras.
General note:
Some home video editions have been confirmed to have a misplaced scene: at ~44min into the movie, when Hedley and Malco are outside the hospital talking, Hedley drives off - this should cut to a shot of Malco walking off, then turning and the frame freezing running ~0:17 (this is designed to make Malco look suspicious, like a red herring). On many DVD editions, the shot is, for whatever reason, shuffled to the end of the film in between the footage of Malco, Hedley and the girl in the police car and the stuff with the kid crying in the hospital. For some unknown reason, the shot from the earlier scene crops up there, interrupting the flow of the final scenes and creating a continuity flub since he is wearing a different suit of clothes.
Screen captures are available on Schnittberichte.
Special thanks to Rewind user Troy Howarth for providing this information. -
CUTS:
- Blu-ray ALL America- Blue Underground - No censor cuts, but the "freeze frame" shot (0:17) is missing (92:59)
- Blu-ray ALL America- Blue Underground - No cuts (93:07)
- Blu-ray ALL 3-Disc Limited Edition America- Blue Underground - No cuts (93:07) with the "misplaced scene" back in its itended place at ~44 minutes.
- Blu-ray ALL Austria- XT Video - Unconfirmed. Likely to be missing the "freeze frame" shot (0:17) as per Blue Underground release (92:59).
- Blu-ray ALL Shameless Fan Edition United Kingdom- Shameless Screen Entertainment - Yes, cut by 0:29 by the BBFC - "Compulsory cuts were required to remove sexualised violence (a naked and bound woman's stomach and breasts being mutilated with a razor blade) in accordance with BBFC Guidelines, policy and the Video Recordings Act 1984." These cuts have been substituted with reaction shots and still frames, so do not affect the runtime. Includes the "freeze frame" shot (0:17) in the correct position. It also has slowed down end titles and additional black frames at the end with additional end theme music, increasing the runtime by 0:57. See the Cult Labs Forum for further details (94:17)
- Blu-ray B Collector's 2-Disc Edition Germany- TB Splatter Productions - Yes - heavily cut though full details unknown (86:41).
