The German version is longer but it is not know how this version was assembled and it is not English-friendly while the cut US disc has some intersting extras.
GENERAL NOTES:
The film's export version ran 97 minutes (24 fps) while the R-rated version "The Hanging Woman" lopped off the entire opening title sequence and began with the first shot after the director's credit, inserting the title card over the titular sight, deleted some gore and nudity, and added an end crawl of made up names, running about about 94 minutes. The prints with the "Beyond the Living Dead" title are the same version.
The Spanish version featured covered takes of nudity and cuts to gore.
The 97 minute export version was released on VHS in the U.S. by Wizard Video. That version retained gore and nudity but lost some expository passages to fit the film onto a T-90 cassette (the running time was just over ninety minutes with only room for an FBI warning logo and no Wizard logo).
The Troma "Final Cut" was assembled using the Wizard version and the "Hanging Woman" version, including the export credits but clipping the title card and leaving "The Hanging Woman" card in the spot where it appeared in the R-rated version and adding the Spanish end credits to the end of the film. This assembly was missing a couple short sequences that were present in one or the other tape sources as a result of sloppy research.
The original export title was "Bracula, Terror of the Living Dead" but that card was replaced with "Return of the Zombis" (sic). -
CUTS:
- R0 The Final Cut America- Troma - Yes - A composite of different VHS sources missing some available footage (95:06 NTSC) but it would run 93:55 without the Spanish end credits sequence (which is unnecessary since the English credits have all of the cast and crew up front)
- R2 Germany- cmv-Laservision - No cuts - Seems to correspond to the uncut version (94:04 PAL)
