An Epic Tale Of Crime And Obsession And Two Men On Opposite Sides Of The Law.Director: Michael Mann
OVERALL: Draw-
OVERALL: Draw
The identical US, Australian. Canadian, French, German, Japanese, Dutch and UK 2-disc Director's Definitive Edition for the additional extras.
General Note:
The movie offered on the Blu-rays is an "altered" versions of the theatrical cut, with alterations performed by director Michael Mann.
The differences between the original and altered Theatrical versions are the following:
- At 61:09, in the theatrical version, the shot keeps showing Justine, while the altered version cuts to Vincent who looks pretty bored while his wife is having a monolouge. Here, the first part of her line "You sift through the detritus..." has been left out, the shot of Vincent in the BD version is therefore a little shorter than the successive scene with Justine in the TC.
- At 75:28, in the altered version, the small line "Ferocious, aren't I?" has been removed from the soundtrack.
A detailed comparison is available on Movie Censorship.
The "Director's Definitive Edition" is a 4K transfer supervised by Michael Mann. The film has been colour timed differently from previous versions (primarily noticeable in indoor night-time scenes) and the sound mix is slightly different in places (for example, the dialogue in the nightclub scene is louder, the guns in the shootout have been lowered, the sounds of the planes in the airport at the end have been lowered).
Note: the Regency Films library which was distributed by Warner Home Video changed hands to Twentieth Century Fox in 2015. Previously released Blu-rays by Warner Brothers were repackaged by Fox, with identical discs in new packaging. -
