OVERALL: R0
Only version with confirmed specs.
DO NOTE, that this DVD-release IS shortened/edited from the original broadcast (which included 13 episodes in total). Apparently approx. 120 minutes is missing, including the final episode "Legacies". Please see "cuts"-notes for more info - and let us know if you have additional details. VHS-release (WGBH Boston Video/2000) should be uncut.
Other releases:
*3-disc version from "Time Life" - titled "Vietnam: An American History", is also released. No proper specs, but it seems to include only 9 episodes, missing "Roots of a War" and "America's Mandarin" (from 4-disc DVD-release by "WGBH Boston Video") and "Legacies" (from the original tv-broadcast). -

R0 America- PBS/WGBH Boston Video - Material from the original tv-broadcast (from 1983) has been edited out of the DVD version:
*"The DVD edition of this series has two hours of material, including the entire final episode "Legacies" edited out." (source: IMDB)
*"The American Experience producers responsible for the Vietnam series recently re-edited the original 13-part Vietnam series. The editing was undertaken to remove outdated information and to create a more cohesive story for viewers." (source: official statement)
*"In the original Episode 1, a French colonel being interviewed about Dien Bien Phu talks about the end of the infamous siege and refers to the Viet Minh as "Red Termites". This has been lopped off the DVD version." (source: customer D. A. Frost/Amazon's customer reviews)
*"The first episode alone reveals several omissions, such as the "red termite" remark mentioned by another reviewer. Another blatant omission concerns the French exploitation of Vietnamese rubber plantation workers. Here, the DVD not only edits out footage of workers in a plantation (with extremely vivid images of the slicing of tree bark to extract the rubber), but it omits an entire interview with a Vietnamese national who describes the brutal treatment suffered by rubber workers. This man recalled a popular expression of the time in which the plantation workers were known as "fertilizer", because so many of those who died were buried beneath the trees among which they toiled." (source: customer E. Gordon/Amazon's customer reviews)
