- R0 UK by Arrow Entertainment has both versions of the film and the best overall extras, including many exclusive ones but no DTS.
- R1 US Anchor Bay includes both cuts, an English dub, plus the sequel. But note, it misses a some extras found on the Arrow release.
- The Korean R0 Starmax editions has a DTS soundtrack and good extras but only the Director’s Cut is offered.
- R2 Germany boxset has both versions of the film, good extras and a DTS soundtrack on the Theatrical version, but only a DD 2.0 one on the Director’s cut and only disc four is English-friendly.
- R2 German/Austrian UE offers probably the widest selection of bonus materials, but it isn’t English-friendly.
The R0 UK SE/CE and the R2 Scandinavian editions are unfortunately NTSC→PAL conversions and should be avoided.
General notes:- From an English subtitles point of view, the original Tartan release has dreadful burnt-in, hard-to-read subtitles, and the Universe subtitles, although removable, have grammatical and spelling errors throughout.
- However the UK Re-released NTSC 5.1 Version from Tartan and the two 2-disc versions have removable clear, grammar- and spelling-error-free subtitles.
- In the Korean "Starmax version", the subtitling for the scenes that were added for the Director’s Cut is downright wretched, and due to the font used can be a little hard to read at times. The Cream Korean release has a better font but overall the Tartan 2-disc subtitles seem to be the best and most accurate.
- The following versions of the movie are known:
- The Theatrical Version (113 minutes)
- The Director’s Cut (121 minutes) containing 8 minutes of additional footage, along with some audio and visual effects changes. — For detailed information on the additional footage in this cut, please consult this web page.
