OVERALL: Draw
The R0 UK Arrow Video release features 2 cuts of the film and restores the original opening and end titles, a wide choice of audio options and a good selection of extras.
The R2 Japanese LE also features 2 cuts of the film but the original opening and end titles have not been restored. It also includes a good selection of extras (differing from the UK Arrow release).
Do note, the Uncensored English Version release from Blue Underground features the original closing credits, a 6.1 DTS-ES track and a few exclusive extras but it only has the Export version of the film.
The US Brentwood release has the US Theatrical Version, but the presentation is in cropped full screen.
ADDITIONAL NOTES 1:
The original theatrical presentation featured the end titles displayed over a shot of David Hemming's reflection in a pool of blood. The image is moving while the titles are displayed; blood drips into the pool, Hemming's face changes expression, etc. Numerous releases feature only a freeze-frame of the same shot.
ADDITIONAL NOTES 2:
Excluding the regional censor cut versions (for example Ascot Elite Blu-ray/DVD in Germany and Platinum Media DVD in the UK), three main cuts of this film are known:
- Italian version AKA Director's Cut (~126 mins)
- Export version AKA International Theatrical cut (~105 mins)
- R-Rated US version AKA US Theatrical cut (~101 mins)
Please also take a look at this great comparison from Whiggles. -
