Notes:BBFC THEATRICAL CUTS (0:04):
Reel 1 - Impact shot on policeman was reduced by removing first blood splurge.
Reel 2 - Impact shot in Mossad interrogation was reduced by removing initial moment of bullet entering forehead.
BBFC VIDEO CUTS (1:05):
The work was submitted in its original uncut version for classification for video in 1987. The film cuts were replicated to bring it into line with the film version: at 12:30, impact shot on policeman was reduced by removing initial spurt of blood from lower abdomen and at 20:30, impact shot in Mossad interrogation was reduced by removing sight of bullet entering forehead.
In addition, with the introduction of the VRA, and its requirement that the BBFC should bear in mind the potential harm to individuals and to society through their behaviour, there was concern expressed at the time regarding the sequence which involved the manufacture of a lightbulb bomb. With video, it was argued, there is the facility to replay the scene enabling close study of the construction of the bomb which would have been denied in a cinema screening. Confirmation was secured as to the effectiveness of this technique of bomb-making. A further cuts was therefore required: at :30, detail of how to manufacture a lightbulb bomb was reduced by removing second half of demonstration after first liquid is poured into bulb. These cuts amounted to 1:05
The work was re-submitted for classification in 1992 in a pre-cut version. The records indicate that it is unclear whether the violence cuts were made in full, but the lightbulb bomb sequence was cut in accordance with the previous classification.
When the work was re-submitted for classification in 2004, it was a widescreen, partly re-edited version with the three previous cuts intact. The two process violence cuts were waived, but after consultation with expert sources, it was decided to replicate the cut to the lightbulb bomb sequence.
THE 2004 DVD VERSION WAS CUT BY AN ADDITIONAL :12 (1:17) -
