OVERALL: Draw
Only differing in the minor extras - R1/R2 Germany have the original US trailer while R2 UK comes with extensive film notes, and picture gallery.
Note on versions:
Despite the opening US titles for "These are the Damned" (the UK are thought lost) this is the UK "version" with "Reel 9" showing the shooting of 'Freya' by 'Bernard' and not by an anonymous helicopter gunman as in the original US "version".
This is the longest known print, equivalent to 95:09 24fps compared to the original UK submission to BBFC of 94:27, and is believed to be taken from the original final cut of early November 1961.
However, the much delayed cinema releases saw these versions edited down to 87 mins (UK) and 77 mins (US). -
CUTS:
- R1 Icons of Suspense Collection America- Sony Pictures Home Entertainment - No cuts - Original UK version (95:12 NTSC)
- R2 Germany- Explosive Media - No cuts - Original UK version (91:19 PAL)
- R2 Italy- Sinister Film - No cuts - Original UK version (91:21 PAL)
- R2 United Kingdom- Sony Pictures Home Entertainment - No cuts - Original UK version (91:21 PAL)
