OVERALL: Draw
The UK 40th Anniversary Edition has an additional Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, and by far the best extras including audio commentaries and alternate episodes. It also comes with a 285-page book.
Also note that all the other editions have a different set of extras, most of which are not offered on the UK 40th AE. The most important ones are the following:
- "The Prisoner Video Companion" documentary on R1, R2 UK and R4 editions.
- An interview with production manager Bernie Williams on R1 and R2 UK.
- An "Interactive Map of The Village" feature on R1, R2 France, R2 UK and R4.
- "Original Production Footage" and "Collecting The Prisoner" featurettes on R4.
- An interview with Patrick McGoohan and three documentaries on R2 France, but the documentaries are in French only.
General note:
R1 releases include an alternate running order of episodes, which is NOT the standard UK screening order, but they should make the most sense in continuity wise. -
