OVERALL: Draw
- R0 US "25th Anniversary Edition"/R0 Australian CE have by far the best set of extras and both the original Mono soundtrack and Dolby Surround remix, but unfortunately the transfer is interlaced and a few seconds are missing (cf. "General note" below).
- R2 Italy has alternate Italian soundtracks, including a "true" Dolby Digital 5.1 remix and some exclusive extras, but no English subtitles are provided on the movie, the extras are not English friendly and again a few seconds are missing.
- R2 France has the Italian Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack and some exclusive extras, but again no English subtitles are provided on the movie, the extras are not English friendly and a few seconds are still missing.
- R2 Holland "Ultrabit" edition has the complete movie and some extras, but only the original Mono soundtrack and the extras are presumably not English friendly.
- R0 UK release from Shameless has some exclusive extras but the original version of the film still suffers from some (admittedly reduced) BBFC cuts (15s).
- The Austrian 3-disc release has lengthy extras and the soundtrack CD.
Also note that R2 UK 25th AE has an exclusive English Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, but it is hardly recommended since the movie is heavily cut.
General note:
*On many editions, there are about 10 seconds of footage missing from "The Last Road to Hell" sequence, located at ~40/45min into the movie, apparently because of print damage. "The Last Road to Hell" is comprised of footage from a "previous documentary" from the filmmakers, that are lost in the jungle. The footage is brief and consists of some mondo footage, people being executed etc.
There are 3 cuts, about 10 seconds in total:
- A scene showing an execution is missing,
- A scene showing an executed, hooded prisoner is missing,
- A scene showing executed prisoners being loaded on a truck is shortened, missing a few seconds in the end.
However, it seems that these bits did not appear in the original negatives. -
