The re-instated "integral" scenes (of which account for around six minutes) has ONLY Italian audio, but with English subtitles.
For the English/Italian hybrid soundtrack for the Integral Version, one line currently available in Italian has been restored to English. It was found and sourced via the international trailer for the film.
Comes with a booklet featuring liner notes from writer Michael Gingold, former New Line Cinema publicist Gary Hertz, and technical notes from disc co-producer Vincent Pereira.
The U.S. theatrical version was released in mono. Synapse had access to the 35mm magnetic DME (dialogue, music, and effecs tracks) and discovered that the effects had been mixed down to mono but the music retained the Dolby Stereo mixing, so the 2.0 is in stereo and decodes the music to surround. -

OVERALL: Draw
The UK Arrow Limited Edition is 4K-mastered, has 3 versions of the film with optional 5.1 audio for two versions of the film, and lengthy new extras. Do note that the 2018 standard edition features only the Italian version but is not just the first disc of the limited set since it also includes the two-hour documentary from the third disc.
The US Synapse Limited Edition has 3 versions of the film and exclusive extras, though it does not have 5.1 audio. It should also be noted that the English/Italian hybrid track for the Integral Version has a line restored to English for this release.
The Japanese release has the longer version with optional 5.1 audio and exclusive extras.
The UK Arrow first edition has the longer version has exclusive extras.
The standard Synapse edition drops the soundtrack, booklet, and steelbook packaging but should do for some viewers.
GENERAL NOTES:
The film exists in three primary versions:
- the Italian cut (~116 minutes);
- the International Version (~111 minutes);
- the U.S. version (~83 minutes) which is not just a cut-down version of the international version but makes use of outtakes and alternate footage not to soften the violence but to smooth over the extensive editing.
The film was mixed down to mono for the U.S. theatrical release - in spite of the Dolby Stereo logo that remains in the end credits - but Synapse Films discovered when accessing Warner Bros.' New Line Cinema holdings - in order to patch up some SD inserted material in their older master of the Italian version used for their 1080p Blu-ray edition - that the effects were mixed down to mono but the music was still in matrixed stereo (hence the inclusion of the "stereo" track as an option for the U.S. version on Synapse's Blu-ray and the Synapse/Arrow UHD editions). -
