This is the re-release edition. The old set had the movie in non-anamorphic transfer only; all other specs are the same. The replaced first disc (which is identical to the single-disc release from Criterion) is encoded R1, whilst the second and third discs are the same as the previous 3-disc release, and are encoded R0 (thanks to Rewind user shrieker for confirmation). A way to tell the difference between the 2 sets is to look for a note on the Second Printing on the back of the 2006 re-release. -

OVERALL: R1
The R1 US Criterion Collection (REISSUED) release wins here on the basis that it contains an the complete Director's Cut of the film, anamorphic, the alternative version of the film and has a HUGE selection of extras.
R2 and R4 Fox releases (other than the Brazil release) are the European Cut, which is similar to the Director approved Criterion Version but omits a few seconds, check the cut status below for more details.
