OVERALL: R2
French release for being uncut and in the original aspect ratio with an anamorphic transfer.
The Japanese and Malaysian releases are also anamorphic and uncut, but not quite OAR.
Note that out of these three, only the Malaysian release is English friendly.
Of the other English-friendly releases, the R0 America has one minor cut, but nothing else to recommend it (please see the Notes for info on its poor video/audio quality). The R1 has been cut by about 70 secs, but has a good transfer (although non-anamorphic) and a new dubbed English DD5.1 soundtrack.
This has also been released in:
- Holland by Buena Vista
- United Kingdom by Buena Vista -
CUTS:
- R0 America- World Video - 3 seconds cut when Billy dims the lights down in the house before going to bed. There is also a 2 second repetition: after Michelle shouts "Ching!", the rest of the scene is looped again unnecessarily but no footage is missing. (Thanks to Rewind user chen lung for this information)
- R0 Malaysia- Synergy Summary - No cuts (92:51 NTSC).
-
R1 America- Buena Vista Home Entertainment - 70 seconds cut:
- 4 secs - Ching protecting his client from a Camera-Gun shot (getting wounded in the process), Ching then kills the assassin with a shot to his Camera-Gun punching through to his head, falling back and then drops his arm on to the table holding the camera which is dripping blood
- 4 secs - The reaction of the security guard and the next take of Liu spurting blood during the strangulation
- 11 secs - Keung receiving a mobile call.
- 7 secs - Jin-Guo (Wen-Jun's brother) getting shot to protect Wen-Jun
- 11 secs - The gang installing bullet-proof window glass
- 5 secs - Leung and Billy sleeping together in the same bed
- 3 secs - Keung falling from the stairs onto the sofa vomiting blood with Michelle shouting "Keung!"
- 9 secs - After Keung is shot again, he turns round briefly, he is then shot twice and continues vomiting
- 3 secs - Wong vomiting blood after being kicked by Ching
- 1 sec - Ching's reaction in getting shot to protect Michelle
- 4 secs - Ching falling forward and the next take of Wen-Jun falling backwards
- 8 secs - Wen-Jun lying on the ground and the next take of Ching vomiting blood on the ground, turning on his back and continuing to move slightly
(Thanks to Rewind user chen lung for this information). - R1 Dragon Dynasty 5 Movie Collection America- Dragon Dynasty - Cut - same cut as Buena Vista Home Entertainment release (92:13 NTSC)
- R2 France- Metropolitan Filmexport - No cuts (89:07 PAL).
- R2 Japan- Maxam / Geneon - No cuts (92:51 NTSC).
