OVERALL: Draw
- The R3 Hong Kong release from Kam & Ronson has a DTS track, is English friendly and includes a featurette. It is the longer of the Hong Kong versions.
- The Taiwanese Region 0 for the longer Taiwanese cut. Note that it is non-anamorphic, does not have DD5.1 or the original Cantonese soundtrack, and has no extras.
Cut notes (thanks to Chen lung):
Artisan contains more violence, Hong Kong contains more non-violent scenes and Taiwanese all the footage from both these versions (possibly including more).
Export International English, Taiwanese and Hong Kong versions have the same foley and music (the latter for most part).
Unlike the Taiwanese version which has more extentions of scenes (but I wouldn't call it an 'extended version' as all the footage was exclusively included for the Taiwanese), the English version places scenes around the film differently and sometimes deletes things totally (in some parts it has more violence than the Hong Kong version).
Hong Kong version is the proper language but interested viewers of the film should definitely check out the Taiwanese version which has more violence. Shame HK didn't use this cut and dub it into Cantonese. -
CUTS:
- R0 Hong Kong- Mei Ah - shortened Hong Kong version (distributor cuts).
- R0 Remastered Version Hong Kong- Mei Ah - Hong Kong version (distributor cuts but more complete footage than 1st issue).
- R0 Taiwan- Thundermedia - No cuts - this is the longest available version (Taiwanese Cut) (99:59 NTSC)
- R1 America- Artisan Entertainment - Exclusive version by Artisan which was not approved by Film Workshop.
- R2 Scandinavia- Scanbox Entertainment - English export version (83:02 PAL).
- R2 United Kingdom- BMG - No cuts - 'Export' version (82:52 PAL).
- R3 Hong Kong- Kam & Ronson Enterprises - No cuts - Hong Kong version (99:06 NTSC)
- R4 Australia- Magna Pacific - No cuts 'Export version'
