General Note:
Originally matted for "widescreen" projection in cinemas but, as discussed in detail by DVDBeaver, the actual AR used was fluid at that point in cinema history.
R1 is open-matte while R2 is anamorphic 1.85:1. The former gives you more information and the option to zoom-in to 1.78:1 (if your display allows) while the latter is fixed but gives you greater resolution. The choice is yours.
