The feature is a silent movie with integrated animated Spanish subtitles that take the place of traditional black title cards. This, however, has obliviously caused problems for the makers of the Region 2 DVD. Instead of overlaying the English (burnt in) subtitles onto the film, they’ve opted to place them outside of the picture but in doing so have created another problem. It appears that to accommodate the English subs and rather than move the image up slightly to give them room, therefore retaining the original ratio of 1.85:1, they’ve not formatted it anamorphicly so you have this horrible letterbox image in the middle of your screen. And even if you have good zoom and ratio settings on your widescreen tv, because the image is non-anamorphic it looks even worse the more you resize it.
