OVERALL: Draw
Between the Scream Factory CE for the best set of extras and the German releases for the full uncut version and an exclusive commentary (in German only).
There two versions of this film:
(1.) Hammer’s original UK version (91 minutes).
(2.) The AIP US cut (88 minutes).
The uncut version was restored in 2003 by MGM and all DVD and Blu-ray versions are based on this restoration. It is missing a few seconds from the pre-credits sequence which are present on the German BDs, but are taken from an inferior SD source.
Also, when originally released, the Scream Factory CE was missing a single shot of frontal nudity from the bathtub scene. Scream is aware of the problem and have set up a replacement program (details can be found here). According to the replacement email: "The corrected disc can be identified by an "R1," which appears around the ring of the Blu-ray disc." -
CUTS:
- Blu-ray A Collector's Edition America- Shout! Factory - Yes - 2003 restoration missing around 6 seconds of footage from a decapitation. However, the footage is available to watch separately on the disc as a special feature. Also when originally released, some of the nudity was edited out (91:06)
- Blu-ray A Canada- Shout! Factory - Yes - 2003 restoration missing around 6 seconds of footage from a decapitation (91:21)
