OVERALL: Draw
The US, UK, and German releases each have differing exclusive extras.
The French release has the same extras as the UK release, but is in 1080i and has forced subtitles on the English soundtrack.
The Australian release has a lengthy documentary but note it is not specifically about "The Brood".
This documentary can also be found on the Region B Australian Blu-ray of Scanners and the Region B Australian & UK Arrow Blu-rays of Rabid.
Versions:
Two versions of the film are known to exist:
- The R-rated theatrical cut.
- The Unrated cut.
Information on the differences between the R-rated and Unrated versions can be found at Movie-Censorship.com (SPOILERS!) and below:
The differences between both cuts are the following (NTSC running times - SPOILERS!):
* At 19:37, the murder of the grandmother is 0:08 longer.
* At 66:14, when Frank gets in the school, after the schoolteacher has been murdered, he looks at her, turns her head and watches his own hands, which makes the scene 0:10 longer.
* At 83:11, the ripping of the birth sack by Nola lasts 0:03 longer, until the fetus is fully visible.
* At 83:31, the cub-licking is 0:02 longer.
* At 83:36, after Frank puts his hand on his mouth, we can see another cub-licking scene which lasts 0:10.
* At 86:10, we can see the dead body of doctor Raglan for 0:03.
Special thanks to Rewind user Sairwas for his contribution in finding these differences. -
