OVERALL: R0
The Australian Via Vision release for including both versions. Note the Theatrical version is missing the Sensurround introduction.
Versions:
The original Theatrical version runs approximately 122 minutes with an OAR of 2.35:1. A pre-credits announcement describes the Sensurround process, which used infrasonic frequencies emitted from subwoofers to cause earthquake-simulating vibrations.
When the film was first broadcast on television on NBC in September 1976, it was split over 2 weeks and additional footage was incorporated. Both parts include opening & closing credits.
Some of the additional footage came from deleted footage shot during the original production, while much of the additional footage was shot specifically for the television broadcast by someone other than original director Mark Robson. The new footage was shot in the current television aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the theatrical footage was cropped to match this ratio.
This version also had 2 cuts for violence: a shot of a woman with shards of glass embedded in her face, and the animated red blood splatter when the elevator crashes. -
