OVERALL: Draw
The 45th anniversary editions have a 5.1 track, though note most of the extensive extras are on the Blu-ray discs.
The various 40th Anniversary Edition releases include many extras, though note that the original release included two documentaries and audio interviews not found on the AE release.
The Chinese 45th anniversary edition drops the commentaries but gains an exclusive featurette.
Notes
- ABOUT THE AUDIO: There are some mixed reports, but the audio seems to be 4.1, which means that there are 3 discrete audio signals (left/center/right) with mono audio signal for the rear speakers. So the DVD player probably list this as 5.1. Also, the R1, R2 UK and R4 releases also include a 2.0 stereo track. The R2 Holland releases however do not.
- ABOUT THE ORIGINAL RELEASES: All versions suffer from perhaps over remastering with edge enhancement being a particular problem.
- ABOUT THE EXTRAS: The original R1 release includes a huge gallery with about 2400 images and DVD-ROM features. Both are not included on the original R2/4 releases. All AE releases include a gallery but only with about 330 images. Also, the R1 AE release includes trailers and tv spots. The R2/4 AE releases don't include these, but the original releases do. -
