OVERALL: Draw
For the International version of the film:
- The French edition has an English DTS soundtrack and good extras. Unfortunately it has forced subtitles and some of the extras are presumably not English friendly.
- The German CE has significant extras, but it has also forced subtitles and the documentary may not be English friendly.
- The Australian edition has no forced subtitles, but it has only a Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround track and a "Making Of" featurette.
For the original UK version:
- Both German CE and UK "Director's Son's Cut" or "The Complete Viking" have exclusive extras, but do note that the documentary of the German edition may not be English friendly.
For the Director's Son's version:
- Both UK and US "Director's Son's Cut" editions have each exclusive extras.
The film exists in four versions:
1. The US theatrical version. This was the initial edit that the US distributor's rushed printed 250 prints of before Terry Jones could fine tune his cut (107 minutes NTSC = 103 minutes PAL).
2. The International theatrical version (103 minutes NTSC = 99 minutes PAL).
3. The UK theatrical version. Terry Jone's preferred theatrical version on first release (93 minutes NTSC = 89 minutes PAL)
4. The Director's Son's version. The proper director's cut completed in 2006 (79 minutes NTSC = 75 minutes PAL).
