The 3-disc Special Limited edition is easily the best release available.

There are a few unconfirmed reports that because the R1 has only allowed this film one disc, there are compression artifact problems. But DVD Beaver reported (please see the link from below): "Well I'll be darned if I can find too much difference between these two editions. If anything the Region 2/4 is slightly hazier and slightly saturated".
Those who can sit still for 225 minutes may still prefer the R1 edition due to the uninterrupted playback.
