OVERALL: Draw
Difficult one.
R1 has the best set of extra-features, but R2 French release has also some extras (it has "forced" subs, and most of the extras are in French though). R2 Italian release has the longer version of the film (it has only Italian audio/subtitles, unlike most of Argento's films, Trauma was shot in English with no post-dubbing).
Versions:
The film exists in three primary versions:
- the English version (~106 minutes at 24fps/~102 minutes at 25fps), which was edited first;
- the Italian version (~109 minutes at 24fps/~105 minutes at 25fps), that includes a few additional scenes that never received a final sound mix in English;
- the Workprint version (~113 minutes at 24fps), which includes additional scenes that were not used in either of the release versions. The Vinegar Syndrome composite remixes these scenes using the cleaned-up workprint audio and various music and sound elements from the Italian track.
The differences between the English and Italian versions are outlined at the following link: www.movie-censorship.com.
A comparison between the Italian and Workprint versions is available on Schnittbericht.com -
CUTS:
- R0 United Kingdom- Tartan - No cuts - Shorter version with all previous BBFC cuts waived (102:02 PAL)
- R1 America- Anchor Bay Entertainment - No Cuts - Shorter version (106:14 NTSC)
- R2 France- Metropolitan Film - No cuts - Shorter version
- R2 Germany- Laser Paradise - No Cuts - Shorter version. End credits seems to be partly missing (101:49 PAL)
-
R2 Italy- Cecchi Gori Home Video - No Cuts - This is the longer Italian version. It includes approximately four minutes of additional scenes that were deleted from the English language prints. These include:
- A new scene features Grace visiting David at the TV station and asking him about Aura; David invites Grace to his house and then calls Aura at home to ask her if she needs any food; Aura lies to him and tells she's already eaten.
- Aura visits a market and is spotted by Dr. Judd (Frederic Forrest), who tries to catch her.
- David checks into a hotel after following Linda Quirk's car and asks for a room overlooking the parking lot.
- An extension of the scene where Dr. Judd gives Aura the berries and she hallucinates. After she passes out, he picks up her bracelet off the floor, and in the shorter version, it cuts directly from him picking up the bracelt to the big orderly taking Aura to her room (104:57 PAL) - R2 Japan- Creative Axa - No cuts - international cut (106:21 NTSC)
- R2 United Kingdom- Lions Gate Home Entertainment - No Cuts - Shorter version with all previous BBFC cuts waived (106:28 NTSC-to-PAL)
- R2 Digitally Remastered Widescreen Edition United Kingdom- Optimum - No Cuts - Shorter version with all previous BBFC cuts waived (102:06 PAL)
