OVERALL: Draw
Between Arrow Films' Immortal Edition for widescreen and fullscreen versions and a roster of extras, the earlier special edition for the German documentary, and the Anchor Bay edition for the exclusive commentary.
GENERAL NOTES:
There has been debate of the OAR of this film, and Romero prefers the 4:3 since the film was shot in 16mm. In the R1 audio commentary, Romero points out some scenes where the matting hurts the image (the film was still probably projected matted to 1.66:1 or 1.85:1 in the theaters).
Versions:
For its Italian release, the film was re-edited and rescored with a new soundtrack by prog rock group Goblin. This edit of the film has been released on DVD in Italy (not English friendly) and is included in Arrow Films' 'Immortal Edition' release. -
CUTS:
- R0 America- Anchor Bay Entertainment - No Cuts (94:35 NTSC)
- R0 Italy- Quinto Piano - No cuts (85 mins PAL), re-edited version prepared for the Italian market; the film has been rescored with music by the band Goblin.
-
R0 Special Edition Italy- Koch Media - No cuts - two versions of the film:
Yes, an abbreviated version of the US edit (90:55 PAL) and the Italian cut titled 'Wampyr' (81:38 PAL) - R0 United Kingdom- Arrow Films - No Cuts (90:49 PAL).
- R0 2 Disc Special Edition United Kingdom- Arrow Films - No Cuts.
-
R0 Immortal Edition United Kingdom- Arrow Video - No cuts - two versions of the film:
Original version "Martin" in widescreen (90:51 PAL), original version "Martin" in fullscreen (90:49 PAL), the Italian version "Wampyr" (81:36 PAL) - R1 America- Lions Gate Home Entertainment - No Cuts (94:36 NTSC).
