OVERALL: Draw
The US release includes 2 versions of the film from and many additional extras, but only the original 2.0 audio is lossless.
The French Édition Limitée includes 2 versions of the film, some exclusive extras, though the new FVX version only has lossy audio.
Versions:
The film was also released on video at some point in a 90 minute version. The original American theatrical cut at 118 minutes, was released theatrically in most other territories but was often subjected to local censor cuts for nudity and violence.
Also note the original American theatrical cut is sometimes referred to the "Director's Cut" but this is incorrect. Director Don Coscarelli was blocked from the post-production process by the producers and was never able to make a full director's cut, though he has stated that the theatrical cut is structurally close to what was originally planned.
A detailed analysis of the differences between the shorter video version and the theatrical cut can be found at Movie-Censorship. -
