OVERALL: R1
The Ultimate Edition for the additional specials and the "From Whoville to Hollywood" featurette (missing from the R2/R4 releases).
Choose one of the box sets (inc. Deluxe Edition) if you want additional films and shorts (note that "Santa's Magical Stories" is missing some extras).
R1 Deluxe Edition is not to be confused with the "50th Birthday" Deluxe Edition which does not contain the audio commentary (although it does have a bonus short like the R2/R4 releases, though that special has since received its own deluxe edition).
The English audio is listed as "Dolby Surround" in some releases, but all seems to have 2.0 mono. -
