Between all the Paramount CE releases (for the best transfer, sound, and extras).
However, for the purists, the R1 CE has the original English mono-track, and the R2 Italian (remastered) CVC-release is the longer cut of the film.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
There are several versions of the film:
- Extended Italian Version (175 minutes) which includes exclusive scenes never dubbed into English.
- 1968 European Theatrical Version (165 minutes)
- 1968 US Theatrical Version (145 minutes)
- 1984 Restored English language theatrical version (165 minutes) which restores an extended scene of Charlies Bronson's character standing up after the first duel, previously only found in the 1968 US version, into the European version.
- 2011 Restored Version (166 minutes) which restores two shots of Jack Elam (15 secs) in the opening, Bronson's character's aftermath in the first duel (7 secs), and a few seconds of Frank Wolff at the McBain farm. In addition, the closing theme song has been properly resynced to the image.
Note all of Paramount's "Special Collector's Edition" DVDs have an issue with the closing theme song being slightly out of sync with the image (which has been properly synced on the Blu-ray editions). -
