OVERALL: Draw
- R1 Criterion Collection offers the two versions of the film with the most extras, but note the picture has been reframed at 2.00:1 by cinematographer Vittorio Storaro.
- R2 UK Optimum includes both cuts of the film at 2.35:1 and good extras.
- R2 SE Italy/R2 France offer only the theatrical cut of the film at 2.35:1, but with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and with exclusive extras, some of which aren't English friendly.
General note: The longer version of the film has long been known as the 'Director's cut'. But it has been made clear now by Bertolucci and DP Vittorio Storaro that the actual Director's Cut is the theatrical cut. The longer version was meant only to be aired as a four-part television mini-series by the Italian television network that funded the film. -
