Between the R1 Platinum Edition and the R2 Holland Deluxe Edition for the best set of extras and anamorphic transfer. Note however that the R2 Holland DE doesn't include the easter eggs found on the R1 PE. Also note that "The Litte Match Girl" animated short is letterboxed on the R1 PE release, but anamorphic widescreen on the R2 DE release.
! Do note, that this version is missing the "original 5.1-track" from the OOP R1-release, and some reviewers feel that itīs actually better option than the new "DEHT"-mix. Aspect ratio is also now 1.78:1, and not 1.66:1.
True fans should probably keep the old R1-release also.
Do also note, that the original end credit music has been altered on the R4 edition (possibly this will also apply to the R2 edition).
Lastly, the R1 Diamond Edition has a remastered transfer, but Blue Castle Disney logo has been replaced by the recent logo and the opening credits have been slightly altered. In addition, two shots were accidentally swapped from the Ariel's "Part of Your World" song. Fixed scenes:
* 0:08:55 Fades into Scuttle with telescope, after "I am not (a guppy)" is said.
* 0:17:55 to 0:18:00 During Part of Your World, it is back in sync with the scenes flipped back in original order.
Disney has made a replacement program, but with the DVD OOP, it may not be possible anymore.
