Hellraiser AKA Clive Barker's Hellraiser (1987)
He'll tear your soul apart.Director: Clive Barker
Year of Copyright: 1987
Year of Production: 1986
OVERALL: R2-
OVERALL: R2
The UK Collector's Edition Box Set includes a DTS track, two commentaries, exclusive short films and other extras.
The US 20th Anniversary Edition release includes some differing featurettes and interviews, but only has one commentary and lacks the DTS track.
Note: All of these releases (except R2 releases, that have BBFC-issues) are "R-rated theatrical versions". This is what Clive Barker says on the new audio commentary (thanks to our Rewind member 42ndStreetFreak):
"(On the hammer murder) That was cut by the MPAA and I never put it back, because you know it was stronger and nastier without the other material. There's probably 2 and a half shots gone. I think she hit him an extra time, I know there was a close-up of the hammer head. At one point I had the choice to put it back in again but it was better and it was more violent the way they demanded that I do it."
Note about the R4 release: Many people have asked for a comparison of the R4 Hellraiser as seen on www.ezydvd.com.au, This release is NOT R4, it is the US version, imported by the company DVD Australia. There are no plans at this stage for this film to be release in R4.
There are also vanilla releases available from Anchor Bay UK under there 'Horror Classics label which should be avoided. -

- R2 United Kingdom- VCI - Yes. According to the BBFC website, the P&S version is uncut at 89:25 and the W/S version runs at 89:18 without cuts (which would suggest a previously cut W/S version was submitted by VCI).
