GENERAL NOTES:
The film was released theatrically in an R-rated version running 95 minutes as well as a PG reissue.
The TV version:
Proclaiming itself to be Edited for Television', this alternative version of Diary of a Mad Housewife not only removes all traces of nudity and strong language, but also includes a substantial amount of material not found in the thentrical cut. It was not authorised or approved by either Frank or Eleanor Perry. The open-matte presentation on the UK BD is from an off-air VHS recording of a broadcast made by the New York TV
station WNYW (channel 5) on 17 December 1986. It was captured and archived by Lydia Wilen, who was the Perrys' assistant during the late 1960s and is thought to be the only copy in existence.
In addition to the edited material, the film had several minutes of unused scenes used to bring the running time back up to a semblance of it's theatrical length - including Tina’s arguments with the various laborers seen only in a silent montage under the theatrical credits - as well as substitutions for profanity which are reflected in the Blu-ray subtitles.
