Giuliano was gunned down in a shoot-out with carabinieri trying to arrest him for his involvement in the massacre of communists celebrating May Day at Portella della Ginestra in 1947. At least that's the official version of Giuliano's death.Director: Francesco Rosi

The US Criterion edition also has extras including a commentary.
The R2 Italian edition also has some good extras, and an alternate DD5.1 soundtrack, but note it is not English friendly. -
