GENERAL NOTES:
The series has switched networks over the years, explaining the different content of various "complete" collections:
- Channel 4 (1982–1988, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2011)
- BBC2 (1990–1993)
- Gold (2010–2016) -
CUTS:
-
R1 Complete Collection America- eOne - Yes, various edits:
- "The Supergrass" is the 93-minute home video version, and is squashed down to a 16:9 ratio.
- Unlike on the VCI Region 2 set, most of the Channel 4 episodes (on discs 1-5) "The Beat Generation", "Dirty Movie", "Gino - Full Story and Pics", "Eddie Monsoon - A Life?", "The Bullshitters: Roll Out the Gunbarrel", "Consuela or 'The New Mrs Saunders'", "Private Enterprise", "Didn't You Kill My Brother?", and "Funseekers" have their original mid-way “end of part 1/part 2” division title cards as originally broadcast;
- "The Yob" is two minutes shorter than on the R2 DVD but the content is the same, ending instead after the credits and removing the empty black screen with the rest of the music;
- "South Atlantic Raiders", "South Atlantic Raiders, Part II: 'Argie Bargie!'", "Oxford", "Les Dogs", "Wild Turkey", "Space Virgins from Planet Sex", "Queen of the Wild Frontier", and "Four Men in a Car" which featured heavy edits on the VCI R2 set are presented uncut here;
- all other time differences of just a few seconds usually just mean longer end title/copyright screens. -
R2 Complete Collection United Kingdom- Channel 4 - Yes, various edits:
- "The Supergrass" is the 93-minute home video version.
For this set, director Peter Richardson went ahead and made his own "director’s cuts" of these episodes:
- "South Atlantic Raiders": several lines of dialogue cut, pacing is tightened towards the end;
- "South Atlantic Raiders, Part II: 'Argie Bargie!'": Numerous scene re-arrangements, horizontal shot flips, and nearly 8 minutes removed, including the recap of the previous installment and most of Stan’s speech at the end;
- "Oxford": overall tightened pacing and a scene removed in which Hannah threatens to expose Professor Breeze;
- "Les Dogs": scenes shortened here and there, including the shootout between rival families;
- "Wild Turkey": entire cold open removed, dancing scene shortened, and farewell scene shortened;
- "Space Virgins from Planet Sex": some dialogue trims, scene removed in which the space rats receive the exploding jigsaw puzzle from under the door;
- "Queen of the Wild Frontier": multiple scenes shortened and rearranged;
- "Four Men in a Car": dialogue between Helen and Steve where he tries to sell her a new computer. -
