The R2 Japanese edition has DTS audio and anamorphic transfer, but it is not English-friendly. The R2 U.K. and R4 Australian "Hong Kong Legends – Ultra-bit Edition" have English subtitles, Dolby Digital audio, anamorphic transfer and they are uncut.

GENERAL NOTES:
The film exists in two versions:
- the 1976 Mandarin cut;
- the slightly shorter 1980 Cantonese cut (the basis of the export version).

CUTS:

• R0 Hong Kong- Winners Video - Yes – cut by 25 sec:
  From when the film itself starts until we can see the monk, that’s why it starts so suddenly – 2 seconds PAL.
  From when Little Mute is about to activate the wooden men (first encounter) until he is tackled – 8 Seconds PAL.
  From when we see the sky until we spot Little Mute about to walk down the path - 10 Seconds PAL.
  When Fa Chi is thinking to himself whilst Little Mute is with him - 5 Seconds PAL.
• R0 United Kingdom- Eastern Heroes - No cuts (106:06) – this version unlike the others contains the original ‘Lo Wei Productions’ introduction.
• R1 America- Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment - Yes – cut by 9 min 37 sec (96:56):
  Film starts off with a shot taken from the credits with a wooden man in the background and "Shaolin Wooden Men" is displayed in English. We now see the film begin from the monks walk towards the camera, everything before this including the opening sequence is missing – possibly cut due to the condition of the English dub.
• R2 France- Seven - Yes - 2m 31s:
  When other students mock Little Mute after his dream with the wooden men – 33 seconds PAL.
  When the drunk monk talks to the other monks in the kitchen – 17 seconds PAL.
  When Fa Chi talks to Little Mute about life outside Shaolin 32 seconds PAL.
  When Fa Chi talks about Shaolin’s future depending on Little Mute – 49 Seconds PAL.
• R2 Germany- Splendid - No cuts (103:15).
• R2 Japan- Universal - No cuts (106:54).
• R2 Ultrabit United Kingdom- Hong Kong Legends - No cuts
• R4 Ultrabit Australia- Hong Kong Legends - No cuts (103:11).
