The Criterion features the Director's Cut, additional extras, and the Roy Scheider narration.
The Warner DVD features the Theatrical Cut, a different commentary, an exclusive featurette, and the additional scene from the Director's Cut as a bonus feature.
Versions:
There are 3 different cuts of the film that have been released:
1) Original release length of 120 minutes
2) 2008 Director's Cut that restored a 1 minute deleted scene (included as a separate bonus feature on the Warner DVD) featuring Chishû Ryû to the "Temple of the Golden Pavilion" segment and featured new sky replacement/color timing at the end of the "Runaway Horses" segment
3) 2018 Updated Director's Cut still containing the additional scene and featuring a different sky replacement/color timing at the end of the "Runaway Horses" segment
There are 4 different narration audio tracks that have been released:
1) English narration by Roy Scheider
2) Japanese narration by Ken Ogata
3) English narration (temp track) by Paul Jasmin (Warner DVD)
