According to the DVD Times review, "Prey" is not a true "open matte" transfer: it has been cropped at the sides, but no important picture information is missing (the Region 1 release is also 4:3). The rumored "Film 77" documentary ("Prey") is missing, since the BBC-TV wanted too much money to license this for the UK (says AB UK).
Comes with an 8-page booklet and a 2-page “Special Features” card. -

OVERALL: Draw
R0 Vinegar Syndrome for the uncut status and extras (note that short film Fragment and the Creating Satan documentary found on this release are present on disc 5 of R2 Anchor Bay's Warren set).
Also note, that R0 Rhino has the "alternate Bedroom Scene" (but the film's in full screen), while R2 includes a softer version of this scene, but is in the correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio, and offers Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS soundtracks and a commentary not found on the other releases.
It should also be noted that the BCI release is cut.
The choice is yours as to what is more important.
General Notes:
The scissor scene was replaced in the UK Anchor Bay release by Norman J. Warren himself (in the commentary and the documentary "Creating Satan" Warren says that neither he, the crew, nor the actors in the sequence liked the stronger version). -
CUTS:
- R0 America- Scorpion Releasing - No cuts. Unrated Cut which features the export "scissor" bedroom scene (the Anchor Bay disc replaced this with Warren's preferred softer alternate scene) (89:39 NTSC).
- R0 America- Vinegar Syndrome - No cuts - export version (90:03 NTSC) featuring the "scissor" bedroom scene (the Anchor Bay disc replaced this with Warren's preferred softer alternate scene).
- R0 Gorehouse Greats Collection America- Mill Creek Home Entertainment - Yes. Shorter Version (87:00 NTSC).
- R0 Horrible Horrors Volume 1 America- Rhino - No cuts. Unrated Cut: the stronger "alternate Bedroom Scene" (=Martin Potter cuts the girls clothing off with scissors and passes the scissors over her body in a threatening manner before she throws him off and attempts to escape, which is when he kills her) is included in the film itself (89:30 NTSC).
- R1 Double Feature America- BCI Eclipse - Yes. British Theatrical Cut which removes several scenes including; a woman having her underwear sliced up and her body teased with a knife and her subsequent stabbing, a naked blonde being branded by a cross and whipped, the mutilated corpse of a man who jumped to his death, some bloodletting during a sacrifice, another really bloody stabbing of a bare-breasted woman during a flashback sequence, a shot of a woman impaled to a door by a knife through her mouth and climatic money shots of a nail file to the eye.
- R1 Drive-In Cult Cinema Collection America- Mill Creek Home Entertainment - Yes. Shorter Version (87:00 NTSC).
- R2 Double Feature United Kingdom- Odeon Entertainment - No BBFC cuts; all previous cuts have been waived. However, the stronger "alternate Bedroom Scene" on "Satan's Slave" (=Martin Potter cuts the girls clothing off with scissors and passes the scissors over her body in a threatening manner before she throws him off and attempts to escape, which is when he kills her) did indeed run into problems with the BBFC on a previous release (84:07 PAL).
- R2 The Norman J. Warren Collection United Kingdom- Anchor Bay Entertainment - No BBFC cuts; all previous cuts have been waived. However, the stronger "alternate Bedroom Scene" on "Satan's Slave" (=Martin Potter cuts the girls clothing off with scissors and passes the scissors over her body in a threatening manner before she throws him off and attempts to escape, which is when he kills her) did indeed run into problems with the BBFC, hence its deletion from the list of extras.
