Notes:The "Liner Notes" and "Booklet" are actually printed on the back of the Poster though for some reason the case incorrectly lists them as being separate items. It is entirely possible that in the first pressings the "Liner Notes", "Booklet" and the "Poster" were separate but were combined in the later pressings.
The full title on the case is "Dune: Special TV Version". -

OVERALL: Draw
- R1 "Extended Edition" includes both versions (Theatrical/TV) in Anamorphic 2.35:1, has some nice exclusive extras (like "deleted scenes") but no DTS. Transfers seems to be slightly inferior to the French UE.
- French R0 UE and Australian R0 CE also includes both versions of the film ("TV-version" in 4:3 ONLY!) and DTS for the "Theatrical version".
* The French UE has a better and sharper transfer for the theatrical version and the TV version is broken into two parts (refer to notes). It's missing the "Impressions Of Dune"documentary and "Interview with Frank Herbert" segment from the UK SE and Australian CE but has a few additional extras (mostly in French).
- The Australian CE release includes all the extras from the UK SE.
- If you're a real fan: The R2 German 4-Disc "Perfect Collection" has both versions but, despite the attractive looking packaging, many of the extras are just taken straight from the Dune website and most of them are only in German.
General Notes:
David Lynch shot far more film than eventually appeared in the 136 min (NTSC) "Theatrical version" (the first "rough cut" was approx 4 hours but it was shortened by Lynch and the studio). In 1988, the studio subsequently re-edited it as a TV mini series without Lynch's approval, and thus his name was removed from the credits and replaced with the standard pseudonym "Alan Smithee" and "Judas Booth". This "TV-version" runs app. 176 min (NTSC). There are some other changes between the releases, and more info can be found Here (by Sean Murphy).
