OVERALL: Draw
R0 MPI, and R2 Optimum -releases are restored by Robert Gitt (head of UCLA's Film and Television Archive), and those are the ones to get.
If you want all the extras, you can buy all the 14 films (12 from "Universal Pictures" & 2 from "Twentieth Century Fox") on the box set (R1/R2), or buy R0 Volumes 1-3 + individual releases of "The Hound of the Baskervilles" & "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes". All R0-releases are also available separately, but there are no extras at all. R0-releases have English subtitles, which might be good to have for the older films like these.
So: Choice is yours.
Note, that there are several budget releases also, e.g. by "Blackhorse Entertainment" (UK - Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Collection), "Orbit Media Ltd" (UK), "Bfs Entertainment & Multimedia" (US), "Focusfilm" (US), "Force Video" (Australia) etc etc, but avoid them all. -
CUTS:
- R0 America- MPI Home Video - No cuts
- R0 The Sherlock Holmes Collection, Volume 1 America- MPI Home Video - No cuts
- R2 The Definitive Collection United Kingdom- Optimum Releasing - No cuts
