OVERALL: R0
R0 clinches it with the anamorphic transfer.
Note, R2 includes 5.1 audio up-mixes as well as the original mono soundtrack while R0 only has the original mono audio but it includes the original screenplay (as a PDF file).
Both releases have different minor extras.
This film exists in two versions:
(1.) The original UK version (91 minutes NTSC = 87 minutes PAL).
(2.) The US version (79 minutes NTSC = 76 minutes PAL).
The American version (from AIP) titled “Horror House” drastically re-edited the structure of the film from the British version - which had already been altered from writer / director Michael Armstrong’s original cut of the film with new scenes written by Peter Marcus and directed by Gerry Levy (for instance, the pub scene with the song “Responsibility”), moving introductory scenes to the middle of the film and reducing the screen time of George Sewell who plays the older married ex-lover of one of the characters.
Thankfully the original version has superseded the American version on home video abroad as well as on television in the United States (the latter from a master by current U.S. rights owner MGM). -
CUTS:
- R0 The Best of British Collection United Kingdom- Odeon Entertainment - No cuts - British version (87:41 PAL)
- R2 The Tigon Collection United Kingdom- Anchor Bay Entertainment - No cuts - British version (87:41 PAL)
